Decisions Decisions
My son came home from school a few days ago and said they were thinking of having him skip the 8th grade and moving him to 9th for the next school year. He’s currently averaging over 100% in nearly all of his classes. I know I’ve told you about all the wonderful things he’s been doing with NASA and his STEM/TSA club and how great his grades are and what a smart kid he is. Now you know that although I’m biased, it’s all the truth!

What Mom Really Wants for Mother’s Day
I’m going to get a little “deep” with this post but I’m so sick of watching TV & seeing the commercials suggesting that diamond earrings that cost $500 or a $30,000 car is what will make mom happy for Mother’s Day. You wanna know what mom really wants for Mother’s Day? You wanna make her happy? DON’T give her something that’s going to take food out of her baby’s mouths. Give her yourself. Your time. Give her your love.
From the kids
Know what I’d love from my kids? A handmade card or drawing or hand written note. Honestly. If they made me a card or drew me a picture, I’d know it came from their heart and that they meant any word they wrote. Gwen loves to draw, so I’ve got lots of things from her that I treasure. (A note: Moms don’t care about spelling or even if that dragon looks like a duck with seaweed coming from it’s mouth.)
Have them pick her a flower or two. My kids have always loved to go out & pick any flower (or what they perceive to be a flower) they find in the yard and proudly bring it to me to stick in our window shot glass that is just waiting for more flowers. The smile on their faces to know they’ve pleased you and they’re so proud of themselves…Isn’t that a gift in itself?
Maybe you could get a pack of seeds & plant them for her in a small cup. Even the smallest hands can do that.
Have a family night. Just mom, dad, and the kiddos. No phones, no video games, no tv. A cute movie & some popcorn & cuddling on the couch.
From Dad
Dads, moms don’t need a ring that symbolizes eternity or some shit. Really. You want to symbolize eternity for them? Prove it. That beautiful engagement or wedding ring should be enough of a “symbol”. I may not speak for all women, but THINGS do nothing for me personally.
Tell her exactly what she means to you. Tell her you love her more than life itself and you always will. Hold her.
Walk up behind her when she’s cooking your fucking dinner for the 7th time this week and wrap your arms around her. You don’t even have to say anything. Just hold her. Probably wouldn’t hurt to whisper, “I love you”, though.
Let her know you appreciate her. Tell her THANK YOU for washing your clothes. Tell her THANK YOU for being the mother of your babies. Tell her THANK YOU for the stupid little things she does every day that may not seem like much, but you might want to think who’d do them if she didn’t.
Hold her hand. Tell her she’s beautiful- and mean it. Look into her eyes and let her see exactly the way you feel about her.
Mom doesn’t need jewelry or fancy gifts. She got her best gift the day she was given her babies…whether they be natural or adopted. What she needs is a little appreciation, a little love and while it shouldn’t have to be just the one day out of the year, show her a little extra on her special day…on Mother’s Day.
And while you’re at it, don’t forget those other moms in your life: your own mother, your grandmother, and, yes, even your mother-in-law–after all, she did give you your spouse! Add in those other figures in your life who’ve treated you like their own: your best friends’ mom & your aunts…They’re all special to you in their own way–let ‘em know!

Funding Your Family Vacation
Family vacations are so much fun, but with the price of gas and entertainment, they can reach high prices in a flash. Summer is coming and it is the perfect time to start looking for ways to earn extra money for vacation.
Yard sales are fun, but they take a lot of preparation before you can actually make any money. In order to draw in a good yard sale crowd, it takes multiple items and lots of tables, price tags, and change for the customers. How many hours have you spent pricing tons of items for a group yard sale? Once you have all your yard sale stuff ready, you have to hope that most of it sells because at the end of the day, you will have to find somewhere to store it all again. At this point, it is better to drop the prices so you can get rid of it or plan on making a donation that afternoon so you won’t have to bring it back into your house.
Instead of working a yard sale this year, I would rather go the online route and sell my smaller, light weight items on online sites such as ebay, local sales sites and various places on the internet. You’d be surprised at how much you can get for a box of same sized kids clothing on ebay. You can even sell your child’s “play clothes” this way. As far as the extra DVD’s and games from our game systems that are just collecting dust, they will go to MusicMagpie.com. I am so tired of looking at all the extra stuff that is collecting dust in our house, when I could be clearing out the house and making extra money at the same time. How about the exercise equipment you buy with good intentions that never gets used. Do you have any of that at your house? What types of items could you stand to get rid of to make a few extra dollars for summer vacation?

Medieval Times Baltimore Castle Review and Giveaway
My family and I were lucky enough to get to go to Medieval Times’ Baltimore Castle which is located at Arundel Mills Mall. What a great family outing! While it’s quite a drive for us – about 2 1/2 hours – if we want to go anywhere aside from the dollar store, school or the post office, we have to travel at least 45 minutes so it’s not really a new thing. This particular trip, though, was worth the drive.
When we first arrived, we were amazed at the sheer size of the mall. We just don’t have malls like that “around here”! Yep. Backward hillbillies, we are…The parking lot was humongous and we got a fairly close parking spot. When we went inside, the entrance to Medieval Times was right there. We got our tickets and went inside to stand and wait on them to call us for the show to start. The lobby is great! There are several suits of armor, a large chandelier and thrones. There is a concession stand but we didn’t buy anything. There is also several booths to buy souvenirs. It’s all “my kind of thing” in those booths. Gwen got a beautiful princess hat. It’s cone-shaped with sequins and has a long piece of tulle hanging from the top. They were $20.
When it was our time to go in, we were let in through huge doors and seated according to the color of ticket we had been given when we had arrived. The arena is huge and covered in what looks to be sand. Our server was very nice. He came around & offered us drinks. We had a choice of Pepsi or water. You can buy others.
Now it’s time for the show! There is a whole story that the cast acts out. The King & Queen sit at the end of the arena above entrance for the performers and horses. The horses are beautiful! Some are Andalusian Stallions. They prance around, and even dance! While we were watching the show, our dinner was served. It consisted of tomato soup, potato wedges, chicken (I mean “baby dragon wing”), and bbq “ogre” rib. The chicken was delicious! The wedges and bread were great and I even ate the soup…and I don’t like tomato soup! They don’t give you utensils…because they didn’t have them in medieval times. After dinner was dessert. An apple turnover. Very flaky and very good!
We continued to watch the show, which consisted of jousting and even sword fighting. When they do the sword fight, you can hear the clangs, and even see sparks fly when they hit blades together. Very captivating! The kids both loved the show, and Richie & I enjoyed it as well.
While Medieval Times is fairly expensive for my budget, if you can do it, I highly suggest it. It’s not only entertaining, but it’s very educational.
One of the best parts? They’re giving our awesome readers a chance to take your family if you are the winner of a 4 pack of tickets to Medieval Times Baltimore Castle!!! Enter below. US only, 18+.
