What Mom Really Wants for Mother’s Day
I’m going to get a little “deep” with this post but I’m so sick of watching TV & seeing the commercials suggesting that diamond earrings that cost $500 or a $30,000 car is what will make mom happy for Mother’s Day. You wanna know what mom really wants for Mother’s Day? You wanna make her happy? DON’T give her something that’s going to take food out of her baby’s mouths. Give her yourself. Your time. Give her your love.
From the kids
Know what I’d love from my kids? A handmade card or drawing or hand written note. Honestly. If they made me a card or drew me a picture, I’d know it came from their heart and that they meant any word they wrote. Gwen loves to draw, so I’ve got lots of things from her that I treasure. (A note: Moms don’t care about spelling or even if that dragon looks like a duck with seaweed coming from it’s mouth.)
Have them pick her a flower or two. My kids have always loved to go out & pick any flower (or what they perceive to be a flower) they find in the yard and proudly bring it to me to stick in our window shot glass that is just waiting for more flowers. The smile on their faces to know they’ve pleased you and they’re so proud of themselves…Isn’t that a gift in itself?
Maybe you could get a pack of seeds & plant them for her in a small cup. Even the smallest hands can do that.
Have a family night. Just mom, dad, and the kiddos. No phones, no video games, no tv. A cute movie & some popcorn & cuddling on the couch.
From Dad
Dads, moms don’t need a ring that symbolizes eternity or some shit. Really. You want to symbolize eternity for them? Prove it. That beautiful engagement or wedding ring should be enough of a “symbol”. I may not speak for all women, but THINGS do nothing for me personally.
Tell her exactly what she means to you. Tell her you love her more than life itself and you always will. Hold her.
Walk up behind her when she’s cooking your fucking dinner for the 7th time this week and wrap your arms around her. You don’t even have to say anything. Just hold her. Probably wouldn’t hurt to whisper, “I love you”, though.
Let her know you appreciate her. Tell her THANK YOU for washing your clothes. Tell her THANK YOU for being the mother of your babies. Tell her THANK YOU for the stupid little things she does every day that may not seem like much, but you might want to think who’d do them if she didn’t.
Hold her hand. Tell her she’s beautiful- and mean it. Look into her eyes and let her see exactly the way you feel about her.
Mom doesn’t need jewelry or fancy gifts. She got her best gift the day she was given her babies…whether they be natural or adopted. What she needs is a little appreciation, a little love and while it shouldn’t have to be just the one day out of the year, show her a little extra on her special day…on Mother’s Day.
And while you’re at it, don’t forget those other moms in your life: your own mother, your grandmother, and, yes, even your mother-in-law–after all, she did give you your spouse! Add in those other figures in your life who’ve treated you like their own: your best friends’ mom & your aunts…They’re all special to you in their own way–let ‘em know!

Happy Mother’s Day
It’s Mother’s Day. This is the 12th one I’ve celebrated as a mom. If there is one thing in this life I don’t slack on, it’s taking care of my kids. Sitting down and enjoying a game of War or Fish or Uno with them is one of the greatest things I’ll ever do. I love my kids more than life itself and I don’t know what I’d do without them.
That being said, here’s how my morning went:
8:30am, Gwenny came and got into bed with us. “It’s Mother’s Day” she whispered to her dad. The dog came over and whined at me that she needed to go out. Of course I got up and walked her. When we came in, daddy & Gwen were still in bed. I went up to see what the hold up was & Gwen was pretending to sleep while Richie was grinning at me. I came back downstairs and proceeded to tell all my Facebook mommies Happy Mother’s Day.
9:15am, Gwen & daddy decided it was time to get up. Daddy came down first and said, “Good morning, mommy. Why didn’t you go back to bed?” I said, “You know she was going to get up and there was no point in trying to go back to sleep for a few.” He whispered, “She wanted to bring you breakfast in bed.” She came downstairs and I tried to give her a good morning kiss…she hid her face from me & proceeded to the kitchen. Daddy followed her. They made her “Nutella Toast”. She went to the couch to watch TV and he went to the potty. Wow. What a great Mother’s Day so far.
I called my mommy to tell her Happy Mother’s Day and we talked for a few minutes and then I decided to tell all YOU wonderful mommies how it’s going here and HOPE that your kids and hubby appreciate you a bit more than mine today! Tristan is at his grandad’s and I’ve yet to call him. I’m sure he won’t remember, either. But he did love me when he left last night. lol
Yesterday, we went to Emerick’s Meat Market in Hyndman, PA. A family trip that takes about an hour that Gwenny whined about the whole time. Tristan and Gwen fought most of the way up and back. Everyone’s poppies are blooming and I was jealous. I LOVE poppies, but everything I try to grow I kill. Yes, even fish. Anyway…there’s a place I know that they grow where I could “steal” some (our family owns the land, so it’s not TECHNICALLY stealing, but it sure feels that way when you’re picking poppies on a back road). So, I stole some poppies FOR ME that the kids proceeded to say “Oooohh!! Can I have one???” So of course, they each got one. My adoring husband complained the next 10 minutes it took to get home that they were giving him a headache. BUT I got my poppies!! And they were droopy but beautiful! This morning, most have lost their petals, but they’re still beautiful. My next tat is going to be of poppies up the side of my leg! Another day will be the post of why poppies mean so much to me!
So to all you mommies, appreciated or not, HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY. Please know that even if they don’t appreciate you now, they will appreciate you eventually. Here’s to hoping it’s not too late when they do.
And with that, I’ll leave you with a picture of my poppies. I’ll share with you, too.

Dale & Thomas Mother’s Day Popcorn Gift Set Review and Giveaway
Dale & Thomas Mother’s Day Popcorn Gift Set Review and Giveaway
Brought to you by Mommy and We
Day before yesterday, I came home to a delivery on my porch…Of course, the kids couldn’t wait to get in the door to open it. It was all pushing & shoving and I am the one who had the key. What was in that box was oh, so yummy!! Dale & Thomas’ Mother’s Day Gift Set Sampler. It was even packaged beautifully in a chocolate-brown box with a pink bow. We love popcorn here, so that went over SO WELL…until we opened it. Tristan only likes butter popcorn. There is no plain ol’ buttered popcorn in this sampler. It has “Hall of Fame Kettle Corn”, “White Cheddar and Black Peppercorn”, “Chocolate Chunk N’ Caramel” and “Peanut Butter and White Chocolate DrizzleCorn”. So, naturally, he wouldn’t be bothered to try it. I bribed him with the “Chocolate Chunk N’ Caramel” and he tried it. I got a “mm” from him, but he’s stubborn & wouldn’t try any of the others. Gwen, on the other hand is like me…Kettle Corn is her favorite usual popcorn but of course, we tried the Chocolate Chunk first. We LOVE chocolate. It is amazing!! We all 3 wrinkled our noses at the White Cheddar and Black Peppercorn but I broke down & tried it yesterday & it’s surprisingly not yucky. So that right there is one bag ALL to myself! We saved the White Chocolate/Peanut Butter for daddy ’cause white chocolate is his favorite. When he got home from work, I made him try it and it was a big hit. The Kettle Corn is mel-in-my-mouth delish! My only complaint about this was there wasn’t near enough of the chocolate chunk…oh, and maybe the bags could’ve been resealable but if I have to eat it all at once, who am I to complain??? Now…to get MORE of that chocolate chunk…
Dale & Thomas was also generous enough to offer one of these awesome gift sets to one of Mommy and We’s wonderful readers. If you’re wondering what to get Mom for Mother’s Day, look no further. This is a QUICK giveaway so that we can get the prize to your mom in time for Mother’s Day. So Hurry! Enter on the Rafflecopter below. Open to US residents (except Hawaii and Alaska), 18 & older. Ends 5/9.
